Sorjin's Adventures on the Isle of Mist

Journals: Camped Near the Mist

Ardan's Journal, 5th of November
It took that old hermit more than a week to figure out that his ship could fly over the land here. Isn't that the point of a cloudship? After torturing us on the ground and running in circles all that time, we spent two hours passing over the nastiest areas of swampland. We've now been at our new encampment about a mile from the edge of the mist for almost a week. I spend my days hunting for food and guarding the ship along with one of the golems, while Sorjin takes Rosso and the other golem out tramping through the woods. At least the nightmares are gone. Now I'm fine all night, but creeped out in the day- that cursed wall of fog hangs in the air not too far from here, and what goes on in there only the gods know. Having a blank-faced mute for a companion doesn't help either.

We have spent the last few days planting poles at the edge of the mist, with the intention of determining whether the mist is receding or encroaching upon the exposed land. My hypothesis is that since the mist has receded in a few spots, it may be slowly moving inward to expose more land.

Another uneventful day comes to a close. I've taken up the joyous new hobby of shooting the crazy-colored spiders around here. Although I'm not interested in tasting one, they are at least something different to shoot at besides the birds and other small game. And it's good crossbow practice.

We encountered a native to the island today... or at least I think it was native. It was a small red creature that had either a big head or a fancy headdress. It ran away when we approached. No wonder- we were yelling and running towards it. Anyway, my data for the mist experiment may be compromised.

Rosso, 7th of November
Wow, what a day! We went around to check on Sorjin's posts, and found some little critter messing with them. He was a little red guy, and he seemed to know the forest pretty well. We'd have caught him, too, if it weren't for his running off into the mist.

Sorjin, 9th of November
It has been a couple of days since our encounter with the little red thing, and we haven't seen any other evidence of its presence. I have compiled my observations from the mist experiment, and unfortunately have no useful conclusion. I plan on sharing what I do have over the CBN. Maybe someone else can get some use out of it. Then I'll start looking more at the rocks around here, but I don't expect to find anything interesting. It's just the wrong sort of terrain. It is so frustrating being here on this fabled island but not being able to go further in!

Rosso, 9th of November
I had an odd dream last night. I was taking a walk at night through the forest. I wasn't doing anything... just walking and feeling akin to it all. The odd part is just that nothing else happened. I just walked for hours on end, not being bored and not getting tired.
