Soon after Flashpoint's release, I started using a card that everyone had always shunned, Claws of Darkness. That worked fairly well. Now I'm attempting to make Shields of Darkness at least vaguely useful. Heck- it's free. Anyway, the card has shown itself to be at least interesting. I don't think it will ever be half the card that the Claws is- for one thing it is a lot easier to get all your Shields stolen and a lot harder to get them back.

The theory is that you want to get out a Dragon Throne as soon as possible and choose Darkness as the designator. This makes the Priestesses and Claws free. The Shields are already free, and the Throne makes all three of these cards free when played from the smoked pile. It sounded like a great theory to me when I was putting this together.

Unfortunately, there appears to be a fundamental flaw in the deck which will probably result in me scrapping it sooner or later. You need a ton of Darkness cards to make good use of the Dragon Throne. On the other hand, the Throne requires 3 Lotus resources. So you need a ton of Lotus cards. That's why Lotus makes a huge appearance in foundation characters even though they supply little else. You also need the throne as early as possible... but by the time you have the resources, you've tossed half of the Darkness cards that you planned on recycling.
