The gearing itself is very simple- with the 2x6 plate removed from above the motor, you can see all the gears from above. There is a small 8-tooth gear on the motor shaft that engages a 24-tooth gear. That gear shares a shaft with a worm (screw) gear. The worm gear engages the big 40-tooth gear that is attached to the top of the control. There is plenty of torque to turn the control, with a 120:1 gear ratio from the motor. It takes about 15 seconds to rotate a full 360 degrees, which gives a rough estimate of 480 RPM as the speed of the Technic motor.
